VCP cert requirement confusement

Hey All,

Apologies for my first post being a bit of a confuzzled panic.

Basically, I sat the VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V4.0] course in January 2010

Tomorrow i am doing a What's New [v5.0] two day top up

and along with my copy of the Official VCP 5 Cerrtification Guide hope to pass the VCP 5 exam at the end of February.

However a friend of mine says that I cannot become a VCP 5 as the course I did in 2010 wasnt the 4.1 one?

However the Blue Print says that even though i didnt do the exam for v4 as long as i have done a 4 course I can still do the v5 whats new, the v5 exam and thus pick up a v5 cert.

http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-16726

Is this correct? Or do i have to do yet more training and spend more ££££££'s?

Regards,

Nathaniel

The certifications are only specific to the major version, so your combination of training will qualify you for VCP5-DV.

ICM on 4.0 or 4.1 qualifies for VCP4-DV

ICM on 5.0 or 5.1 qualifies for VCP5-DV

ICM on 4.0 or 4.1 plus WN on 5.0 or 5.1 qualifies for VCP5-DV

If you want absolute confirmation, email certification@vmware.com and wait for their reply.

Welcome to the Community,

interesting question, and I think you should email certification@vmware.com to ensure you get the correct answer (except Scott knows Smiley Wink it)

From the VCP5-DV requirements at http://www.vmware.com/go/vcp it says "... but have complete one of the VCP4 qualifying courses" and only the 4.1 version of the ICM course is listed. However, looking at the VCP4 qualifying courses there's this statemant "The 4-day version of this course VMware vSphere: Install Configure, Manage [V4] taken before December 31, 2010 still meets requirements.", which I think may also be true for VCP5!?

Anyway, make sure you send an email to the certification team with this question.

Nathanial, welcome the the forums,  you are good to go, as you have the full course and the What's new.  infact you could even take the VCP410 and become VCP-DV4 as well.

Thanks Gents,

I will email certification@vmware.com just to have 100% clarity but you guys seem to know what your talking about Smiley Happy

It would be useful for some kind of requirement checker wizardy type questionare to check eligability. The diagrams on the blueprints to show the paths are clear enough at a glance but simple wording and version details can be missleading.

Thanks for your help guys! will keep you updated on how i get on.
