VCP 5.5?

I think I deleted the email, but I got an invite to the VCP 5.5 beta exam. Is that really the direction VMware is taking? That seems so odd. I am willing to bet vSphere 6.0 comes out in the summer of 2014.

I can neither confirm nor deny, but if there was, anyone receiving the invite would have been sworn to secrecy.

The exams are updated/refreshed every 3-6 months.  Plus the "last" exam will remain available until the "next" exam comes out - you can still take VCP4-DCV.

Yes, I am aware that test content is updated frequently. There was never a VCP 3.5 or VCP 4.5. I just find it odd that VMware would release a certificate for vSphere 5.5 with less than a year to go before a new release (potentially) of the product. It seem that VMware has put a lot of focus on releasing many lines of certifications, I was not expecting a 5.5 version.

There was not a VCP 3.5 and there will not be a VCP5.5.  However, the VCP5-DCV exam will be updated to be 5.5 specific. When vSphere 5.1 launched it was decided to make the exam "agnostic" so that anyone from a 5.0 background or 5.1 could answer any question.  However, that takes a year of updates away (no SSO etc).

WIth a 5.5 release we did not want to loose two years of updates, so the exam will be updated to be 5.5-specific at the next refresh.

Here's my memory of things:

The exam for VCP3 was updated for VI3.5 when the software version jumped from VI3.0 to VI3.5

The exam for VCP4-DCV was updated to be generic across vSphere 4.0 and 4.1

The exam for VCP5-DCV is currently generic across vSphere 5.0 and 5.1, but is being updated for 5.5

Is there a VCP 5.5 beta exam in the works? I could swear I had an email invite for that title.

I was wondering if anyone has heard if there is or will be a beta exam in the summer 2014 using 5.5 for the VCAP-DCA exam ? Since I would rather take a exam that is using 5.5. thanks ahead of time.

The VCAP-DCA and VCAP-DCD exams are both in development to update to version 5.5 to keep as current as possible to the vSphere technology.

Drop me a message if you want to be considered for the beta.

Note that no dates have been announced.

I definitely would be interested in the beta for the VCAP-DCA and VCAP-DCD exam just email me any info when you get it. I'm also currently getting ready to take the IaaS exam to get my vcp5-cloud cert. at the end of December and keep working my way up the list in VMware.
