VCP 3 to VCP 4 question

Hi, I'm currently a VCP 3.

On the requirement sheet it says you need to either take the vsphere 4.0 full course or the "what's new" course in order to become a VCP 4.0

My question is, is this a hard requirement? so even if you go take the exam and pass the vshpere 4.0 test they won't award you the cert if you have not taken the course??

yes, you'll need to take the "what's new" course.  Usually when the new certifications come out, if you are a VCP already you can do a direct path to the current VCP.  However, that is for a limited time.  So, you'll need to take the "what's new" course then sit the exam.

For VCP5, when you have your VCP4 cert, you can go directly to the exam without sitting a course, if you'd like (for a limited time)

Yes!  When you take the course you'll have a certificate of completion that will also be sent to VMware.  So, since the limited time has expired to go directly to sitting the VCP4 exam you will not be recognized as a VCP until you complete ALL prerequisites.

The course is an hard requirement... and I suggest to book AS soon is possible, because there isn't an official date for the course expire (now will start the new What's new on vSphere 5).
