Question about vSphere 4 licensing during VCP

Hi,

I ran into questions on vSphere licensing during VCP exam which I failed.   I am trying to read about different type of license for host and vcenter, but I cannot find any documents.  VMware website has been updated with vSphere 5.0 info but I am looking for 4.1 licensing doc.

Can someone help?

Basically, I need to know about what features are supported by which license and how many hosts are supported by (vCenter license).  I understand the per physical CPU requirement for host.

thanks,

Yong

There are 2 types of vCenter Server licenses.

vCenter Server Foundation allows you to manage 3 hosts:

vCenter Server for Essentials allows you to manage the 3 hosts that are in the Essentials kit:

http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/VMware-vSphere-4-Essentials-Editions-DS-EN.pdf

Each of these hosts is limited to 2 processors and it can not communicate with any other vCenter Server.

vCenter Server Standard allows you to manage as many hosts as its current limits are (1000)

A quick Google search found a comparison of the features for the hosts:

But if we google "vsphere 4.1 license comparison chart" the vwmware site:

http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/buy/editions_comparison.html is showing vsphere 5 comparsion.

This site has the old chart for vSphere 4:

but this is not the "official" comparison chart.
