After two weeks of crazy studying (sitting with a sinus infection during the second week) passed my VCP5-DCV (450-300). Had a ton of work experience on vShpere 4.1 (never wrote the exam though) and only very few on vShpere 5.x. Blueprint helped and so did my virtual lab I franticly build up in the last week. Couple of observations:
- Don't even bother going through all the documentation! There just is not enough time to do that - use the Blueprint to the tee.
- Hands on helps a ton and in my case most importantly do not listen to other peoples judgement of the exam. I feel that this exam was not that difficult - lots of really basic questions.
I am glad I have this behind my back as I was getting away with not having this standard certification due to my job experience and track record. It is hard to explain how good it feels to get this finally done.
I have no idea how if my accreditation is going to be granted - I have attended the course, used the same e-mail address for all VMware based registrations. Guess I am going to wait for a week or so and see what happens.
My question now is which one to do next - I feel this one was a little bit basic. I would love to do the design but might that be a little to enthusiastic. Does VMware have accreditation that are somewhere security centric or even in the line of doing optimizations/troubleshooting? Really looking into getting and additional VMware certification which is of industry value but not complete overshot.
Welcome to the Community and Congratulations!
The VCAP is the next step - for Troubleshooting and Administration the DCA would be the exam to tackle next.
Congratulation on the Pass!!
If you want to focus on DCV then you go for VCAP-DCA (Administration) or VCAP-DCD (Design). If you want to move to Cloud or EUC then you have certification for that as well
More details about certification can be found at VMware Certification Roadmap (http://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrReg/plan.cfm?plan=32567&ui=www_cert
You should get a welcome email within the next two weeks with some instructions (e.g. confirming your shipping address, ...). After doing this, it may require another few weeks until you get the printed certificate by regular mail.
Congratulations for the pass!
Thanks - VCAP5-DCD looks good. One of my colleagues was send and tasked to write the VCDX5-DCV I believe and looking at the requirements is a helluva of a difference beast from the VCAP5-DCD.
Now to see if the work back agreement is worth the courses
For anybody that passed the VCAP5-DCD is it possible to pure book learn it without taking the recommended courses?
Congrats! I also didn't find the exam to be too difficult, then again, if you work with vSphere a lot, it should not be that difficult. Now I just have to take the course!
