Formal VMware training is fairly expensive and is not designed to be paid for by an end user - it's designed to be paid for by a company.  For example, I'm sitting in an Optimize and Scale class this week which costs $4,125.  It's a good class but not one I could ever afford to pay for out of my own pocket.

I'm going to assume that you're not currently for an employer who is willing to pay for your education.  If you are, ignore the rest of this reply.  I'm also going to assume that you are able to spend some money on your education since this is a career direction.

If you have any community colleges near you, see if they offer any course that cover this.  Some are even able to be meet the prerequisite for the VCP exam.  Whether you're learning VMware software of Hyper-V doesn't really matter - there are careers available in both.  I'm going to focus on VMware.

You'll want to set up a home lab, not based on VMware Workstation but probably on ESXi.  Google for "ESXi home lab" and you'll find a lot of blog postings on how to build one for relatively low cost.

Once you've started learning, make sure you follow the forums regularly.  Try to answer the questions.  If you don't know the answer, try to look it up.  Test out your answer in your home lab.  You will get better and better, and you will start to be recognized by your peers.  Answer the kinds of questions you think a future employer might have.

Good luck, and welcome to the community.
