Just passed the VCP, now what?

Hello everyone,

Last Thursday I passed the VCP5 Exam.  I'm really excited about VMware technology, and the VMware community!  Now that I've passed the VCP I'm ready to continue my VMware education.

Just a little bit about my current situation.  I work for a manufacturing company with a pretty small IT staff.  About 8 Months ago just prior to our exchange migration, virtualization was given to us as an option from our sales vendor.  After a little research we bought in to the virtual world.  Lucky for me I was delegated the job of Administrator for our virtual environment.  I dove in headfirst, reading everything I could get my hands on, and within a few months signed up for the fasttrack course at our local IT learning center. A month later took the VCP, and here I am.

So where I sit, the option that makes most sense to me is to go down the VCAP-DCA path.  but here is the kicker, we're planning a VDI POC for early 3rd quarter of this year.  I'm having a hard time focusing on one or the other, and it definitely seems like an extreme task tackling both objectives.  Any suggestions from you guys' would be greatly welcomed!

Thank you in advance!

Congratulation on the Pass!!

If you are going to more concentrated on End User Computing you can follow that and VMware has seperate certification for EUC and you have VCAP for Desktop as well

Check this http://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrReg/plan.cfm?plan=32567&ui=www_cert

Congratulations!

With that VDI POC coming up, the VCP5-DT might be a good fit. Either one will be good though!

Thank you Brian and Sakibpavel!

Brian, can you recommend any DT resources (books, videos, etc...)?

Congrats.

Now depending of your experience you could consider other VCP exam, or continue the datacenter path with a VCAP exam.

Well done!

I would recommend the VCAP-DCA exam. It really tests your real world knowledge of managing vSphere environments. I have not completed the DCA4 and DCA5 and they are the best technical exams I have taken.

Thank you Andre and Sid,

I'm holding off on testing 5.1 until I get my homelab up and running.  I plan to use the homelab for both study and for upgrade scenarios to ensure a smooth upgrade for our production environment.  I know this probably isn't the right place but has anyone upgraded their production environment to 5.1?  And if so, did you run into any snags... i.e. SSO???

Sid, from most my research over the last couple weeks I've been reading the same thing you said about the VCAP.  I just got my HA/DRS Deep Dive 5.0 in the mail and am planning on going through all my FastTrack labs in my homelab.  Any other study resources are welcomed!

Thank you again to everybody who has taken the time to congratulate and leave feedback.  VMware has an amazing community, glad to be a part of it!

VCAP5-DCA is (or at least was, some months ago) based on vSphere 5.0:
