There are VCP exams on different technologies as well as versions: VMware Certification
The most common certification at the moment is VCP5-DCV - it requires that you take authorised training, and pass an exam. The costs of these vary from country to country, in the UK the total cost will be £2000-£2500. Read more here: (VCP5-DCV) VCP-Data Center Virtualization
