Hi there,
I submitted my request to have the VCP550 exam available in PearsonVue, and I got it from VMware, but I still have a question.
Do I need to attend an official course from VMware in order to get certified?
I have been studying and practicing with Mastering vSphere 5.5 from Sybex.
This is what I want to do...
Take the exam
Get certified.
Is that what I can do?
Is someone certified with the same process I want to do?
Thanks!!
You can seat to the exam before take the official course, and if you pass the exam the status will be exam passed, but VMware will only recognise you as VCP after you complete all requirements, including official course.
You need attend a qualifying VMware authorized course, for more details check: VMware Certified Professional 5 - Data Center Virtualization (VCP5-DCV).
Yes.
i took the exam first then git certified by attending the course later
Thank you all,
I got your point and I saw it in the blueprint, however I keep having a question,
What would be the status if I take the exam and pass?
I am able to book it, select the teat center and pay it trough PearsonVue.
It says preaproved exam.
I tried to schedule VCP5 and that one was requesting me a code that the course facilitator would give me, that is why I am concern, it was not the same process for VCP550.
I thought it was something like a program that allows people get certified in new technology because when I requested the exam there wasn't any official preparation available.
I got the confirmation that I have until 2023 to take the exam.
Greetings!

Thank you!
That was what I was expecting to clarify.
Thank you guys! I hope this answer also helps people like me with the same question.
I hope to see you soon with news about my VMware certification path.
I am about to get married so spending 3,000 DLLs is not my priority right now and the company does not pay the course, only the passed exams that is why I decided to buy the book and study by myself.
Do you know any other training not that expensive?
Hi again,
What about if I take this path?
Do I also have to take a course?
Thanks!
Whatever VCP certification you aim to obtain, you need to pay and take one of the official courses.
Yes, you still have to take a qualifying course. The only way to earn VCP5-DCV certification without taking a course is if you are already holding another VCP level certification (VCP2, VCP3, VCP4-DCV, VCP-Desktop, or VCP-Cloud). But to earn one of those you would have had to take a class.
I find the VMware documentation confusing on this point. If one looks in: (VCP5-DCV) VCP-Data Center Virtualization then it seems a course is not required (though recommended) for VCP5-DCV certification if you already have a VCP4 certification. However, if you look on page 20 of the VCP-DCV-Exam-Blueprint-v3_1.pdf it is required. From your answer and the URL it seems the pdf is not correct or am I missing something?
Look at the table on page 19, it matches that on the website - you do not need training if you're a VCP4-DCV holder - the middle of the 3 paths applies to you.
The course descriptions in section 4.2 of that blueprint document relate to the required training for those that have a training requirement, the top of the 3 paths on page 19.
