Have 3.5, 4.0, and 5.0 courses but no VCP: VCP 5 or 4 first?

Jump to solution

Greetings -

Hopefully someone can clarify the requirements for me so I can streamline my studying - after 4 years of experience and taking the courses along the way thanks to my employer, I am finally ready to study to get my VCP.

I have taken the required courses for VCP 4 (Deploy, Secure and Analyze V3.5, What's New V4.0), and just completed What's New V5.0.

The graphic for the VCP 5 path on mylearn is kind of unclear - it appears that I do qualify to sit for VCP 5 since I have all of the required classes and experience, though it could also be read that I would need to get VCP 4 first, then 5.  If I only have to study for VCP 5, all the better.

Thanks!

Your DSA course on VI3 combined with the What's New course for vSphere 4 qualifies you for VCP4, but you do not currently qualify for VCP5. You will have to become a VCP4 by passing the VCP410 exam before doing anything else. No retirement date has been set for the VCP410 exam yet, but it won't be around forever so I would recommend you prepare yourself to take it as quickly as you can.

As you have attended What's New for vSphere 5 already, you can gain VCP5 either before or after 29th February 2012 by passing the VCP510 exam.

There are plenty of VCP4 and VCP5 posts that you will find useful on my blog: http://vmwaretraining.blogspot.com

IMHO, take the VCP4 exam before is removed.

Then you can take the VCP5 exam when you want.

You are eligible for VCP 410 exam but since you have gone through Whats new in v5.0 course.

Clearing VCP 410 exam will give you VCP 5 title provided you do it by 29th Feb 2012

Thanks Scott for updating.

Yes after VCP 4, he also needs to go for VCP 5 exam to get the VCP 5 title. But first thing should be to start with VCP 4 exam.

Thanks to all for the fast responses!  I will start with the VCP4 exam and then move to 5.

Well, time got the best of me and I have not yet sat for the 4.x exam.  Now I'm ready to dig in again, but reviewing the cert site it looks like requirements have changed again.

Given that I have the following courses under my belt, but no VCP, do I qualify for taking the VCP 5 with the new requirements?  I'd really like to study for and setup a lab with the current stuff instead of 4.x.  The page here http://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrReg/plan.cfm?plan=12457&ui=www_cert seems to indicate "no VCP but have completed a VCP 4 qualifying course" that I might have the required classes?

- 3.5 - DSA

- 4.0 - What's New

- 5.0 - What's New

Thanks!

Nothing has changed for you given the courses you have attended - everything I said in my reply on November 30th 2011 still applies to you today.

As it stands right now, my understanding is that you need to pass the VCP4 exam to qualify yourself for VCP5, then pass the VCP5 exam.

If you want official confirmation of that, email certification@vmware.com
