Hi there,
So I sat the VCP510 exam today and failed with a 279, so close but yet so far.
Got caught out by a few questions being pretty in depth with a not so popular topic. (not sure if im allowed to mention what it was etc? due to exam policy).
I've been studying for around 6 months and really nailed it in the last month. Learnt a lot of stuff and spent a fair bit of time in a lab and I work with vSphere at work.
Does anyone have any further advice for this exam?
I used the following material:
VMware Doco
http://www.virtuallanger.com/vcp5/
The Official VCP5 Certification Guide
Mastering VMware vSphere 5 - Scott Lowe
VMware vSphere 5.1 Clustering Deepdive (Dncan Eping / Frank Denneman)
Also used the VMworld conference video's on youtube as I found these very helpful.
& CBT nuggets and Trainsignal videos.
Does any one have any other material they would recommend watching/reading/using?
I will be going through the above material again (mostly the official cert guide/vmware doco from the blueprint) and spending some more time in the lab.
I'm looking at doing the exam again in around 2-4 weeks.
Also random question to top this off, what is the rough age/experience for people with the VCP5-DCV cert?
I'm 19 at the moment and been working in the IT industry for 2 and a half years and have been a sys admin for the last 6 months.
Thanks in advance,
Jake
Sorry to hear that you failed but see it as an opportunity to improve in the weak areas.
My best advise is to do more hands-on with the solution and look more in-depth in the topics that you missed in the exam.
I know many colleges that have failed the first 2-3 times, so don't worry, its not an easy exam and you will feel proud once you pass.

Hi Linjo,
Thanks for your response. As you said, I'll take it as a chance to improve on my weak areas.
I've killed my lab and I am going to rebuild it and follow doco as I go.
I want to pass this exam so I can move onto my vcap .
Thanks again,
Jake
Bumping for input from anyone else.
FIrst, there's no need to bump.
Personally I think it is possible to use too many different prep resources - focus on the blueprint, the documentation, and the lab.
You know what to expect now, although as the questions are taken from a large pool your next attempt will include different questions from your last attempt.
Sorry to hear that, just refer blueprint and train signal video that is sufficient to clear exam . of course you need hands on knowledge on the env.
Thanks for your response Scott.
Will do as you've said and focus mainly on the blueprint / vmware doco + more hands on lab time.
@hareshn thank you for your response.
I've been using trainsignal videos as I find some of them very good for learning topics which are my weakpoint.
I've booked my exam in for a couple of weeks from now, should be sufficient enough to cover my weak points and even my strong points and then pass this exam. ![]()
All D best ![]()
So I sat the VCP510 exam again today and I passed with a score of 350!
Basically for the past three weeks I went over the blueprint very thoroughly again, side by side with the VCP official cert guide + as much time as I could in the lab.
I blew my lab away after I failed and rebuilt the whole thing.
Many thanks for the support.
congrats ![]()
