Enough Time To Take VCP4?

I noticed an article today that if true VMWare will be hosting an event in San Francisco on July 12.  The article speculates this is where VMWare will announce vSphere 5 & ESXi 5.  I'm a little under half way through studying for the VCP4, and with my business trips coming up I won't get back in town till July 11th.

My dilemma is I can't decide to continue studying for VCP4, or stop studying and wait for the VCP5 material to become available.  Because in all honesty I won't be able to take the test till August, and by then the VCP4 test may no longer be available.  Any advice is appreciated.

There's never been an "upgrade" exam before, but there will be a "what's new" course. At this stage we can only assume that VMware will follow what they did from 3 to 4, which would mean that VCP4 holders will be exempt from having to attend the what's new course to qualify for VCP5 - you would only have to pass the new exam. Those that have a trained on 4 but not gained VCP4 will have to attend the what's new. The exemption for VCP4 holders would only be for some length of time, not indefinitely.

if I were you try to VCP4 yet, to value, and so you go out VCP5 studies and also takes the fifth. vSphere 5 might will be presented at VMworld, until you exit  documentation and preparation of certification should take more time.

I would say concentrate on the VCP410 exam.  The VCP410 exam will be available for sometime to come, in my opinion.

I would definitely continue with your VCP4 preparation, I expect the exam will be available until at least the end of 2011.

Scott.

This really depends on how much time you have to spend on certification.

If you have enough time, take the VCP4 certification (of course you have to take the course, if you have not attend to it).

This give also the advance to take (probably) the VCP5 exam without addition courses.

Thanks for all the advise everybody.  One question that popped into my mind is, does VMware offer a 'bridge' exam for those who had the previous.  Meaning if I pass my VCP4 exam and I want to get certified in VCP5, I only have to test on what's new/what's changed between the two releases?

They did the same where you didnt have to do any additional courses when upgrading from 3.5 to 4 so you will be able to upgrade it with ease.
