Don’t receive VCP-DCV 2021 title all requirements are fulfilled.

Hi
I was recently in contact with VMware Certification Support regarding VCP-DCV 2021 since I received VCP-DCV 2020 title and not VCP-DCV 2021 after fulfilling all the requirements as mention https://www.vmware.com/education-services/certification/vcp-dcv.html and in the linked pdf page 2. https://www.vmware.com/content/dam/digitalmarketing/vmware/en/pdf/certification/vmw-VCP-DCV-certific...

I asked VMware Certification Support if there is something I haven’t fulfilled to receive VCP-DCV 2021 title and VMware Certification Support gave the answer with 3 options to gain VCP-DCV 2021 title.

1. Retake and pass Professional VMware vSphere 7.x (2V0-21.20), that I already have passed.
2. Retake VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V7], that I already have attended to that class.
3. Wait until VCP-DCV 2022 is release and pass that exam without retake a online course: this is a completely different certification from my understanding.

Here is my fulfilled requirements option 1.

Certification Path if you hold VCP-DCV 2020

1. (Recommended) Gain experience with vSphere 7.x
Worked with VMware since 2006

2. Option 1- Pass one of the Professional Data Center Virtualization Exams
Professional VMware vSphere 7.x (2V0-21.20) Passed 2020-12-29

3. Option 2 - Attend one of the training courses in 2021
VMware vSphere: Optimize and Scale [V7]
VMware vSphere: Troubleshooting [V7]
VMware vSphere: Fast Track [V7]
VMware vSphere: What's New [V6.7 to V7]
VMware vSphere: Optimize and Scale plus Troubleshooting Fast Track [V7]
VMware vSphere: What's New [V6.7 to V7] - On Demand
VMware vSphere: Optimize and Scale [V7] – On Demand
VMware vSphere: Advanced Administration Workshop [V7]

I passed option 1.

Here is my fulfilled requirements option 2

Certification Path if you hold No VCP Certification

1. (Recommended) Gain experience with vSphere 7.x
Worked with VMware since 2006

2. (Required) Attend one of the required training courses
VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V7] attended 2020-12-18

3. (Required) Pass the Professional Data Center Virtualization Exam
Professional VMware vSphere 7.x (2V0-21.20) Passed 2020-12-29

I passed required task 2, 3

Here is data from Certification Manager.

I’m a bit confused of all this because I fulfilled all the requirements as mention on https://www.vmware.com/education-services/certification/vcp-dcv.html and in the pdf page 2. and I need to do everything again or is VCP-DCV 202x based upon year?

There are 2 hard requirements - completing the training and passing the exam.

You met both requirements in 2020, so you're a VCP-DCV 2020.

If you had passed the exam on 2021-01-01 you would be a VCP-DCV 2021 instead.

That's bad way to get VCP-DCV 202x if it based apon year and if you pass the requerment late in Q4 as for my part when it differd with 3 days only.

Had i know this back then i would have watited 3days more.

It's mentioned in the FAQ: https://www.vmware.com/content/dam/digitalmarketing/vmware/en/pdf/certification/vmw-certification-fa...

The link to that document is on the Certification homepage: https://www.vmware.com/education-services/certification.html

The policy applies to every instance of every certification: VCTA, VCP, VCAP, VCDX for all technology areas.

Hi Leha, Scott is correct. If you completed the requirements 3 days before the end of the year, you may email certification@vmware.com and request an exception. Sometimes when it's that close exceptions can be considered. It's not a sure thing, but it can be looked at.
