Confused about vsphere 5 certification exams.

Ok, I have zero qualifications in vmware and have done no prior training. But after loading a trial copy for my home server. I really like vpshere and want to learn more. But the information provided from different sources is very confusing.

People said I want to be a vsphere 5 professional. So I looked that up but it doesn't exist on this site (vcp510) There is only the DT and DV versions.

But both the DT and DV versions have a prereq of a VCPS certification which I can't even see.

So I checked pearson vue. To see what exams they had. They do have the vcp510 exam and the vcp510-dt. But not the DV version.

What made it even more confusing is that when I was watching the CBT nuggets training videos. It said I had to have to do a VMware View: Install, Configure, Manage [V5.0] course. But it states this isn't necessary with vcp510-dt/dv.

I am so confused 0_o

I am going to learn vsphere and I would like to use it professionally so I want to get certified but I want to make sure I study the right materials first.

Sorry

*edit*

You do need the install, configure, manage thing for the DV certificate.

Is there any self paced option for this? I only see some online classes which are only available in two weeks time.

Welcome to the Communities..

The certification model of VMware has got changed few months back and that is make you little confused

People said I want to be a vsphere 5 professional. So I looked that up  but it doesn't exist on this site (vcp510) There is only the DT and DV  versions.

The vSphere 5 certification (VCP-510) is now called as VCP-DV (Datacenter Virtualization ) . The DT version of the certification falls under End User Computing (Desktop)

From certification site:

VCP5 has been renamed VCP5-DV (VMware Certified Professional 5 – Datacenter Virtualization).

You need to attend VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V5.1] training Coures to sit for the VCP-DV exam as a pre-requisite

Check the certification roadmap which will give some bette idea

Is there any self paced option for this? I only see some online classes which are only available in two weeks time.

You need to attend either Classroom and online to be qualified for the VCP-DC certification. There are some self-paced FREE training on VMware site but that will not fulfill the requirements of VCP-DC certification

Hope this helps!!

The next online course is at the end of april. The next classroom course is 10 hour drive away in 45 days.

Is it really this difficult to get the certification?

Nope, I only looked at 5.

Jesus. 4 grand for an online course.

I can't afford that. So long vmware certifications.

Online course are the same format as in-class course. So could be a valid option.
