Hi,
I would like to ask a couple of questions regarding the VCP5-DCV program.
1) Do i need first to earn the VCA-DCV cert prior going for the VCP5?
2) Is the VCP5-DCV course mandatory?
About the 2nd question, i don't have enough cash for the course and i can completely rely on self-study since i have 10 years of experience in the IT industry so i really don't need to go to class. I have all the gears necessary for my hands-on training.
Thanks
Yes its required.
And NO, they will not ask you for proof. You can take up the certification even without attending the VCP Authorized course but your certification will not be complete and you will not receive a Certificate till you finish the training.
Think about it as a two step process to earn the certification. Even if one is not completed, you will not be done.

1. No they are two independant certifications. You don't have to have VCA-DCV to write VCP.
2. Unfortunately, YES, Authorized course is required for you to take up the exam.
Go through the course requirements here (VCP5-DCV) VCP-Data Center Virtualization
Also note that going forward VCP certifications will come with an expiration date and will be valid for 2 years before which you will have to get recertified. Read about that in my blog post

For real? ... This is really an annoying restriction set by VMware. The course is very expesive to pay and i would pay this amount for a CCIE lab exam instead. So, you're saying that if i go to write the exam directly, will i be asked for a proof that i took the course? Is there any other workaround for this?
Appreciate your reply.
Thx
