Just received notification today of my VCAP-DCD...#453.
So now I have both the DCA and DCD...a double VCAP! Hey just in time to do it all again for vSphere5.
As people have previous commented, the exam was very tough and you must be able to work through the questions at a rapid pace. I left myself 1 1/2hrs to go back and complete the visio style design questions.
This gave me enough time so I wasn't under too much pressure completing these gnarly questions.
For those interested, here’s what I did for preparation…
I spent 2-3 months studying for the exam (with fitting in 4 x Microsoft exams in that time too!).
Main resources I used…
1. Attending the Design workshop course (great instructor Alastair Cooke)
2. Read Duncan and Franks 'vSphere 4.1 HA and DRS Technical Deepdive' book inside and out.
3. Exam blue print and all associated whitepapers.
4. Lab time, lab time and more lab time – even though it’s not an admin exam, this helped reinforce the best practices covered in the exam. I don’t believe you can truly learn just by reading the manual alone. You need to be able to call on past experience when making quick decisions.
