Hi vSphere Community,

Can you run vSphere Update Manager (installed on Windows Server, with a separate MS SQL Server instance) when your vCenter Server is the vCenter Server Appliance?

Yes, that's actually how you need to do it.

as a.p. confirmed, that is exactly what is required when using vCenter appliance.

With vCenter appliance, you need windows server and separate instance of SQL server to install your Update manager which connects to your vCenter appliance. During installation wizard, provide vCenter appliance FQDN/IP address to configure Update manager.
