update manager, scans ESX3.5 host 176894 (patch level) says nothing to install

I have upgraded to vsphere and virtual center 4. Scanning some older 3.50,176894 hosts and update manager reports that it has nothing to install. I have looked through the logs and find them hard to decipher.

Is there one best place to look to try and determine why it thinks that nothing is needed to be installed?

My recommendation is....upgrade to 3.5 Upgrade 5 and try again with Update Manager

I am trying to upgrade to the latest version of 3.5 and it won;t becuase it says it has all the patches, clearly from the build number this is not the case. thanks
