update Manager 4.1, no longer supports guest OS?

the Update Manager (VUM) module for vCenter

VUM will continue to exist inside vSphere but only to centrally update the VMware Tools and the ESX hosts. Scanning and remediation of patches for

guest operating systems will not be available anymore.

This may mean that either VMware terminated [its OEM agreement with Shavlik, or that the company is preparing to release a stand alone product.

is this true?

Update Manager 4.1 supports guest OS patching.

Update Manager 4.1 and its subsequent update releases are the last

releases of the product to support scanning and remediation of patches

for Windows and Linux guest operating systems and applications running

inside a virtual machine. (A list of such operating systems and

applications is available in the section Scanning and Remediation of Virtual Machines and Applications.)

This capability will be discontinued in the next major release. If you

use this capability today, you should start planning your transition.

While

the above capability will be discontinued in the future, the ability to

perform virtual machine operations such as upgrade of VMware Tools and

virtual machine hardware will continue to be supported and enhanced.
