Why my update manager cannot connect to patch sources?

Hi all,

In my environment, update manager cannot connect to all the default patch sources. Of course I can download the .zip file from the home page and import it manually. But it seems that manully import only support esx patches, isn't it? And I also wonder why my update manager can't connect the patch sources, our environment  is configured to use proxy server to download patches, may the problem relate to the proxy server?

In um's log files, I find the following log, "[2011-06-26 23:02:10:171 'httpDownload' 488 ERROR]  [httpDownload, 728] Error 12029 from WinHttpSendRequest for url https://xml.shavlik.com/data/hfnetchk6b.cab", but I can download hfnetchk6b.cab from the browser.

Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks a lot.

the Host OS that you have VUM installed on does it require a Proxy Server to access the Internet?  Go the the Admin view of VUM and check you connections.

Troy, thanks for your reply.

Yes, the host which VUM installed must acess the internet through a proxy server . And the result of test connection is

"Connect to the following URL successfully: http://www.vmware.com"

"Can't connect to the following URL: http://www.microsoft.com"

Can you get some conclusion from this scenario?

It seems that either your proxy server is stopping your connections, or you have some sort of routing issue accessing the web.

Many companies impose restrictions on downloads - particularly files liek CAB files - so you may want to speak to whoever manages your Proxy server to find out if there is some sort of limitation in place that is stopping you.

I assume that you can resolve the IP address of the website etc?

One day I will virtualise myself . . .
