Vcenter client plugins Update manager do not connect to vcenter server

Hi all,

recently i updated the Vcenter server to 5.0.0U1 and so other components, like the update manager.

From the machine where do Vcenter is running, the plugin Update Manager is working well.

From my own pc where i installed vsphere client, and the update-manager-client plugins, directly from the cd-iso, the plugins report error:

There was an error connecting to VMware Vpshere Update Manager  [IP-VCENTER:443]

The things are very strange for me, because:

A) the update manager service is running

B) the SOAP PORT is 8084 and SERVER port 9084, so why it is using 443?

C) on the vcenter machine i let it install the server whitout changine nothing, and from my client side also nothing changed.

I'd like to use plugin UM from my vsphere client.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Michele,

the same story by me after changing of vCenter IP address.

I was able to solve it like described in KB 1014639:

- Stop the Update Manager service:

  1. Click Start > Run, type services.msc, then click OK to open Services.
  2. Right-click the VMware Update Manager service and click Stop.

-  start VMwareUpdateManagerUtility.exe from C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Infrastructure\Update Manager\

- correct old vcenter IP to the proper one

- apply the changes

- Start the Update Manager service again.

I hope it helps .
