Update Manager to update Physical Windows server

I am wondering if there is any way we can use Update Manager to a Physical Windows server? What if I installed vmware tools on the physical server?

Thanks in advance

I don't believe VMware Update Manager can work on any physical machines of than ESX. Because VUM works with vCenter, anything being managed by your vCenter instance can be patched.

For your physical Windows devices, you may want to consider WSUS or something similar.

That's right. Update Manager is a vCenter plug-in and can only work with VMs. Maybe in future, VMware will develop new technology and it will be possible to upgrade physical machines too. Smiley Wink

As stated above, Update Manager cannot update physical Windows installs.

If you are looking to manage a local repository to update your Windows OS installs on hardwre, Microsoft does provide WSUS: Windows Server Update Services for free.

(It does require a Windows server, client access licenses, etc)
