Update Manager problem: "Remediation failed" on one ESX 3.5 host

Hi there,

I’m having a problem updating a (Dell 2950) ESX 3.5 host (version 3.5.0 build 110268) using Update Manager with Infrastructure Client and VirtualCenter (version 2.5.0 build 119598).

Scanning the host is successful, but the remediate fails.

I have been able to update another test ESX 3.5 host without a problem using the same update server.

I’ve tried remediating one update, as well as all updates (22 are required) and the same error is given.

I have also tried moving all VM’s to a different host, removing the host from the cluster, manually putting the host into Maintenance Mode, rebooting prior to attempting the update etc,... but still the same error is given.

The error from Update Manager is below.

I've logged a case with VMware but haven't got any advice yet.

Any assistance would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Hugo

Hi,

You can try deleting the update manager cache and then start the whole process again.

Thanks,

Samir

Thanks for your response.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled update manager (downloading all updates again)... and have run esxupdate --flushcache on the effected host.

Hasn't helped.

Thanks,

Hugo
