Update Manager not showing in HTML view

Just updated our vSphere appliance to 6.5.0 Build 15259038.

One of the reasons for this upgrade was to bring Update Manager into the HTML5 view rather than the Flash view.  The upgrade went fine, I can see the update manager plug-in is enabled in the flash client as you cant see plugins in the html client.

But on the html client still not seeing update manager.  I created a new local admin user to test and does not shop up for them so assuming its not a permissions issue, I have restarted the services and the VSCA server to no avail.

Does anyone know how to resolve this?

Hi,

In the version Vmware 6.5 html5 it had not yet been 100% completed. If you want to be tranqullo you must also update to version 6.7

The thing is we have another vCentre on 6.5 that has update manager in the html5 gui so feel it must be a setting somewhere?

Hello,

Please check whether you are able to download the plugin with the below url.

https://<vCenter Server FQDN>:9087/vci/downloads/vum-htmlclient.zip

If yes then can you paste the output of the below command by logging into the vCenter putty.

ls -lrth /etc/vmware/vsphere-ui/cm-service-packages/com.vmware.cis.vsphereclient.plugin

Vivek Thacker

Have you tried to restart the vSphere Web Client. Sometimes after update it will not appear until you restart.

Hello,

The plugin for HTML is missing. Create a ticket with VMware support they will help you in doing the same.

Same issue here as @brujulap09. I do have a support ticket opened for the issue. I would upgrade to 6.7U3 but I don't know how to do that when I need to use the DellEMC specific upgrade files, which I have uploaded to a datastore using the HTML5 client, but have no access to the physical hypervisor. I'm not a trained VMware expert, I'm simply a business manager who knows just enough to probably destroy things, so telling me to use command line to upgrade our three hypervisors is not a solution that works for me. Our VMware system was setup by a MSP that is no longer in business, I don't even know how to get in touch with any of their employees.

MSP left us with v5.5 and I'd been able to successfully upgrade to v6.0 and v6.5 over the years using the Flash vSphere web client.

I can see that the plugin is missing, you could use the following KB to try and resolve this:

https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/59662 (I know it's for 6.7 but the steps do work)

Also, this might be because of the fact that the STS service certificate wasn't replaced (properly) during the upgrade. I've seen this over and over the last couple of years. You might be able to resolve this with the "Resolution" part in one of my blogposts:

https://vcloudvision.com/2020/12/31/fixing-an-invalid-vcenter-sts-certificate-while-using-cmsso-util...

Thank you @bryanvaneeden. I was able to get Update Manager working in the HTML5 client by upgrading VCSA through the VAMI website, which I did not know existed until yesterday.

Hello all, best way to fix this is to upgrade VCSA to 6.7 at least. HTML 5 plugins will work way better on that version. Regards.

  1. Login to the vCenter Server Appliance VAMI on https://vcenter.fqdn:5480
  2. Browse to the Update section.
  3. Check the available updates. If 6.7 U3f (6.7.0.43000) or newer is available.
  4. Select the update and click on “Stage and Install”.
  5. The update will be installed and you have patched the environment.
