Host cannot download files from VMware vCenter Update Manager patch store. Check the network connectivity and firewall setup, and check esxupdate logs for details.

Hi

I have scoured the internet for solutions to this problem and have followed numerous blogs on checking dns settings to add the patch websites to the trusted websites in ie on the VC server yet i still get this error every time i try scan for updates on any of my esx hosts. Downloading of patches via the update manager plug in works fine so connectivity to the downloading sites is working. I have also checked the esx firewalls and enabled update manager on them as i knew these weren't enabled by default. Does anyone have any ideas what might be giving me this problem as everything i have tried doesn't work

Yep i tried that and i have even download update one patch 1 and still i'm getting the same errors

I thought a rebuild of ym entire VUM server would fix this problem and even created a dedicated server just for VUM but i'm still getting the exact same errors. I have attached my *log4cpp.log file when i forced a scan for reference and the only error i can see is

I have checked the vci-integrity.xml like you had to for the previous versions to find the "PatchDepotProxyUrl" but this isn't in the file and neither is there any reference/setting for HostUpdateDepotManager. anyone have any ideas? I've opened all the ports and have disabled windows firewall on the VUM server.

In the end i have found the problem to have been me assuming all ports were open between the esx hosts & VUM vm when they actually weren't.So once i asked the network guys to check that the port 9084 was open between the VUM vm and the esx hosts they clarified it wasn't, opened it for me and now it all works.

No I had and still do have them separate. Mine for this example was as I stated a blocked port but I did blog about all the other resources I found and tried in trying to work out what was causing my problem if you're interested
