Hi People,
I have upgraded my vCenter server to vCenter 5.0 Update 1 and also VUM to Update 1, and installed V I Client to Update 1.
When I create a baseline to apply the VMware ESXi 5.0 Complete Update and other relative patches as of 15th March 2012, it fails to scan or remediate with an error message:
" The uploaded upgrade package cannot be used with VMware vSphere Update Manager"
and
"VMware vSphere Update had an unknown error. Check events and log files for details"
The ESXi 5.0 host has been built from Dell Customized image - build 504890
Any help to solving this problem would be much appreciated?

ESXi updates are basically a full image download for your ESXi host. If you are using a custom image, all of those custom services will be overwritten if you use a generic image from VMware.

Thanks KjB.
Does this mean I have to wait for Dell to produce a ESXi 5.0 Update 1 Customized iso and/or Update 1 bundles ?.

Correct. Either you use the Dell offline bundle with the generic image, or wait for the updated custom image from Dell.

This does seem very restrictive, and I have never had this problem with HP customized vSphere (primarily ESXi 4.1 of course).
At present with this Dell ESXi 5.0 Customized build on R710s:
I cannot apply any patches at all now since I have upgraded to vCenter 5.0 Update 1 and VUM Update 1.
It will be interesting to see if other users have problems.

Hi People,
I solved my problem.
The Update Manager DB was corrupted after VUM Update 1 upgrade.
At the installation wizard step choose to replace DB with new empty one.

I have'nt face any issue as such while upgrading my prod server. I have upgraded ESXi 5 to 5 update 1 by two ways by CLI & update manager no issues as such...
