I wanna change the default projects folder "c:\Program Files\VMware\VMware ThinApp\Captures" to something else.
I mean not during capture but permanently.
Is it possible..?
I searched before I asked and haven't found anything useful.
Thank you for any suggestion.
If you want to change the default to other location, you need to reinstall ThinApp by passing the parameter /v INSTALLDIR=”NEW LOCATION”
For example,
VMware-ThinApp-Enterprise-4.6.1-361923.exe /v INSTALLDIR=D:\ThinApp
Thanks

I don't think you can change it by default, it's hardcoded into application. But one thin I noticed is that Default Projects folder is created by adding string "Captures" do start-up directory of Setup Capture.exe.
So what you can do is copy all files from %Program Files%\VMware\VMware ThinApp\ directory to some folder where you want to put your projects. For example \\sfileserver\ThinApp_projects\ and run Setup Capture.exe from network location. In this situation ThinApp capture process will offer you default address \\sfileserver\ThinApp_projects\Captures.
But this is good idea for request for change to implement into next release.

Thank you both.
You are welcome.
I just pasted this forum to guys from Thinapp and let's hope they will implement this nice request for change.
Have a nice day,
Just wanted to make one thing clear. ThinApp Setup Capture in itself is ThinApped. This means, once installed (extracted) to a client can you copy the whole VMware ThinApp folder and put it anywhere, e.g. on a network share. By default will Setup Capture default to .\Captures (relative to Setup Capture) for storing the project.
To change the default location using the reinstall parameters, would I have to uninstall first?
As stated you can simply copy the binary folder to some other location. capture folder will be created where ever your binaries are.
If you want to do it with install option, yes you should first uninstall and reinstall it after that.
Well, we are limited to the built in max character limitation in a path of Windows OS. But that should be the same if you store it locally or on a network share..
Well, ok, but why with Total Commander worked (to create and to copy in it)? It should have the same max character limitation...
Looks like setup capture has used MAX_PATH as path limit.
MAX_PATH is limit imposed by explorer though window can obviously create and open file longer than that in path. Total commander has probably used a higher limit and hence is able to copy it. You can try accessing the file in explorer to verify if this is the case. There will be no quick solution for it though till next release. Meanwhile I'll get it verified at our end.
Can you, please, do one test for us?
Don't save Project under path Z:\SAVE_PATH, but try to save it under \\?\Z:\SAVE_PATH.
Thank you for your time,
I will help you, of course...
But I wanna understand: you say that I should use ThinApp to save on that path. But first tell me how I can set ThinApp to save on \\vmware-host\Shared folders\ThinApp\Capture....
Instead of saving it into Z:\ThinApp\Captures\ just try to save it into \\?\z:\ThinApp\Captures\.
Weird. I don't think I can help you anyway now.
But there two different errors:"Unable to write to" and "Could not create directory".
What happend if you save project under simple directory on local computer C:\TEST\ ?
Yes, there are different - the path that you gave me is not "seen" at all, ThainApp fails at first file.
With C:\Test\ works fine.
OK, I think there is problem in it. It's probably limitation which sould be fixed. Can you, please, open ticket at Thinapp team?
