Winamp

I try to virtualize Winamp and have some quastions because I did not understand them.

In Youtube there are many tutorials some delete any folder and let only %ProgrammFilesDir% and some don't delete anything. Below this is my Projekt folder from Winamp Lite.

Folders.jpg

%AppData% contains winamp.ini there are my changes on Winamp stored

%ProgramFilesDir% contains Winamp, the plugin, language and skin folder.

Can someone explain me waht the other folders do? can I delete them?

After making Winamp portable I want to be able to change language and dll files in the plugin folders.  I have downloaded CCleaner Portable and looked into it. I don't know how they made it Portable, the root folder of Ccleaner  is so

ccleaner.jpg

you can check portable ccleaner here http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds

In Ccleaner I can change language, and store the changes in that ccleaner.ini

The same thing I want in Winamp. How can I do that?

My Winamp has

winamp.dat

winamp.exe

and how can I add plugin and winamp.ini into the root?

Those directories are called Macros and they represent directories in native system. For example %ProgramFilesDir% represents directory C:\Program Files. You can read more about it in documentation http://www.vmware.com/pdf/thinapp461_manual.pdf (page 111). Yes, you can delete them, they are just directories Smiley Happy. But you should be aware what application's directory contains what data - in other words, you need to know application to know which directory delete and which not. In your situation I wouldn't delete anything.

The same thing I want in Winamp. How can I do that?

To be able to do this I would say you would need to change behavior of Winamp to:

- look for plugins dlls in Thinapp start directory

- look for winamp.ini file in Thinapp start directory

I just looked for some registry keys where could those Winamp settings be stored and also tuned, but I couldn't find any. So I think there isn't way to change those settings for Winamp it self, that means you can not make Thinapped Winamp act as portable CCleaner.

We hope that there will be option in next Thinapp release which will provide us option to override virtual paths to some native paths.

But, IMHO, you should read documentation of Thinapp before using it. Here is link http://www.vmware.com/pdf/thinapp461_manual.pdf.

***Good question is half of the answer...***
