Lakshman,

I was told Visio 2010 needs to be captured online and activated (opened).  I am using the new hotfix and the reg entries and I have no activation errors.

I did have a couple of installer issues, but eliminated them using the advice found here:  http://www.vmwareinfo.com/2011/09/surgically-eliminating-windows.html

The only big Visio 2010 issues remaining for me are:

  • Help won't open on Windows 2008R2 where no prior Office installation is present (think Citrix server situation here).  I get a Microsoft Office Help Viewer error:  "There is a problem with one or more installed help files.  Please repair your Office installation and try again."  I've tried all of the suggestions in the threads and documents regarding the Help folder placement and isolation settings. I've even tried my own advice, but this is the error I always get on Windows 2008R2 where there are no Office products installed.  On any achine where some form of Office is installed, whether Office 2007 or 2010, whether Windows XP, Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 2008, or Windows 2008R2, the Help opens (although on some it still has issues, but at least it opens.)  I've tried granting Merged to %TEMP% and %Internet Cache%, etc.
  • Can't open native Word 2007 and choose Visio object for embedding - Visio not listed as an embedding option (even though installed from MSI.)  Considering entry point or other package.INI settings for this issue.
  • Can't insert native Excel 2007 chart in to virtual Visio 2010.  Get Access Denied message.  Considering entry point or other package.INI settings for this issue.

By the way, Help opens in Project 2010 ThinApp on same Win2008R2 server where Visio 2010 ThinApp Help does not open.  Also, I have both apps running simultaneously, no activation issues.

Toby,

Are you noticing the Help issue only on Win2008R2 server? Could you please check on other OSes (XP or Win 7)?

In the meantime, i will check the other issues you reported on Visio 2010.

What kind of MS license are you using?  MAK, KMS, VLS?  I am dealing with the same issue on MS Visio 2010, is it possible you can post the step you used to solve the issue.

Thx in advance

Here's a screenshot of opening the Visio Standard 2010 ThinApp help on Windows 2008R2:

Visio_Standard_2010_Help_Error.jpg

On the same server, Visio professional 2010 ThinApp Help opens, but doesn not display content:

In case you're wondering why Help is being used in Offline mode, it's because our servers don't have Internet access, in most cases.  The Help needs to run locally.  If the package is deployed to a machine with Internet access, then the user can engage Online Help.

Thanks for providing the screenshot Toby.

Are you able to launch Help successfully on other OSes like XP or Win 7 using the same ThinApp?

Visio Professional 2010 ThinApp Help issue on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit:

Visio_Professional_2010_Help_Error_Win7_64.jpg

32-bit Windows 7 is not an option - our corporate desktop image standars are Win XP 32 and Win 7 64.

As you can see from the screen above, the temporary Internet files location is being accessed, but only some of the content is being shown.   Same result observed with Visio Standard 2010 ThinApp on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.
