ThinApping SPSS 21 or 22

For those who have created a SPSS ThinApp (or who are familiar with SPSS), I have question.  When I run the SPSS ThinApp package on a "regular" workstation it runs fine. When I run it on a View desktop, I see the following error: "Connect failed. Server denied non-SSL client inet: Local Computer:0.". I am wondering if anyone has seen this, and what the problem may be. Not sure why the ThinApp runs fine on a regular desktop but not a View desktop. Also, when running the fully-installed SPSS application on the View desktop it runs fine, it is only when running it as a ThinApp that it has a problem.

Thanks.

I use the same SPSS 21 and 22 thinapps on both View desktops and thick clients but haven't seen that problem. Maybe it's something in your View desktop's configuration?

Could you check whether the VM has the same application natively installed or a clean one please.

If you mean the VM I used to ThinApp the application, I did try to run the package on there and it ran fine. This was a clean Windows install with SPSS not natively installed.

If you mean the View desktop, it does not have SPSS natively installed.

I have tried some other troubleshooting steps. I copied the ThinApp package (.exe and .dat) to the C: drive of the View desktop, and it ran. If I try to run it from the network share where I put ThinApps, it will not run.

What happens when the ThinApp is deployed from View Manager?

When the ThinApp deploys from View, it is registered automatically using Thinreg.exe tool.

I don't deploy from View Manager, I just set up shortcuts to the ThinApp package, so the user clicks a shortcut that runs \\<network share>\IBM SPSS Statistics 21.exe. I never had any luck deploying ThinApps. This method of running them works fine on the several other ThinApps we have.

Got it. It is worth trying to register the ThinApp (from Network) using ThinReg.exe and see if it works.

If it works, you may try using user logon script that registers the ThinApp when the user logs in.

Using ThinReg did not make a difference. Running the ThinApp from the network share still fails. Running it after copying it to the C: drive of the View desktop works. I am not sure why the ThinApp has issues in one location but not the other.

Could you try mapping the network drive on the View desktop and launch the application and post the result please.

We already have a drive mapped for the UNC path (a little higher up in the tree), and we run the package through a shortcut pointing to the mapped drive.

This morning I ThinApp'ed version 22 of SPSS and I just heard back that it does not work either, it does the same thing. It runs on the virtual machine that I used to ThinApp it (after reverting the snapshot to the pre-install state) from the network, but it will not run on my View desktop from the network. When running it from the C: drive of the View desktop it runs fine.

Sounds like a bug. Request you to file a SR for this issue.

I finally called VMware yesterday. Turns out this was a problem with Symantec Endpoint Protection. I never would have guessed that.

Thanks for your help.
