ThinApp with Persistent disk

Hey Everyone,

I'm just  getting started with ThinApp in our production environment so my troubleshooting skills are not quite up to par.   I have created a ThinApp package for WordPerfect  which integrate with our document management system to open files.  This package has tested successfully in all of our desktops except our VDI images with persistent desktops.  I'm not sure if the D:\ drive is causing a hiccup or not and I'm really not sure how to start troubleshooting.   We are using ThinApp 4.6 with the VDI desktops being XP SP3.    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Simply delete it from explorer.. Normally is it stored in the users roaming profile (C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Thinstall) and the Thinstall folder but can be located anywhere as long as the user has modify permission to the location. Find the corresponding Sandbox and hit Delete..

If the package is working perfect on a physical client with only C: drive but fails on a VDI image having something redirected to :anguished_face: would I suspect it is because of the D drive.

Do you see any error messages?

What is not working?

Yeah, it works great on a physical C:\ and a virtual C:\.   Just happens to not work on the persistent disk with C:\ and D:\.   There is no error message displayed it simply calls the document management system (which is what it is supposed to do) and then the login for the DMS goes away.

Ok, so it seems that it's isolated to my profile.  I took a test account and was able to do everything on a pool with persistent disk.

Good stuff. That makes much more sense.. I would not expect any issues with the environment you described. Just out of curiosity, is the issue solved if you delete your Sandbox?

That suggestion seemed to do the trick.  Is that kind of a first step troubleshooting procedure for ThinApp?

No I wouldn't say that but since you told me it was only your user account having the issue it only seemed logical the issue was related to your profile or Sandbox. In those cases I tend to try deleting the Sandbox first.

Hi,

Just as a note:

Yes, deleting the sandbox is a best practice whenever you change your package. The sandbox contains a lot of information, like folder isolation modes and so on. You would find changing it in the package and still not having the desired result  (files not accessible for example).

Also in a sandbox there might be installed patches or configuration settings applied in earlier sessions.

Our best practice is during testing is to have the sandbox on auto-delete (property in package.ini). Just make sure to remove this setting when publishing the application. In general we even change the sandbox name as soon as the package has been installed on client systems, others than the capture/test systems. This to also ensure 'old' settings don't interact in undesired ways with the package.
