Hi,
I have been using ThinApp for a few weeks and have been sussessfully building ThinApp'd applications with my purchased Enterprise license but today when I try and run a ThinApp'd program I am getting the "Unable to validate License" error message.
The only thing that I changed a few days ago is to upgrade from version 4.6 to version 4.7 could this be the issue?
I have also reinstalled the ThinApp application to see if this fixes but it does not..
How does ThinApp validate? is it done when the app is packaged or does it doing on a ongoing basis?
Can anyone help?
Regards
Joolz
If you have a snapshot of your previous install, can you roll back and see if it works?
Joolz,
Please follow this link to change the ThinApp license:
Hi,
I have tried reentering my serial number again but still no luck, I tried entering another invalid serial and it rejected the serial so I proves my serial is good.

Try uninstalling all ThinApp versions (4.6 & 4.7). Now install only 4.7 and enter your license.
Please try this and post your result.
Do you have a working installation of ThinApp on any machine and/or snapshot? If so, copy the entire ThinApp folder over to a different location and launch ThinApp from that new location and it should work. ThinApp does not have to be "installed", in the traditional sense.
On rare occassions I need to package on a disconnected VM. In those cases, I copy over my working ThinApp directory to the VM, along with al the files needed for the package capture, prior to disconnecting the NIC. The only thing left to do is update the THINSTALL_BIN environment variable on the capture machine. THINSTALL_BIN should contain the full ThinApp folder path.
For upgrades, I rename the ThinApp folder to reflect its version, then install the new version, and the new version re-creates the original installation folder. This way I can run older versions if I think the new version causes an issue.
For example, if ThinApp is installed to C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware ThinApp, then the THINSTALL_BIN environment variable is "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware ThinApp" (with the quotes.) I rename the VMware ThinApp folder to VMware ThinApp 4.6.1, then run the installer for 4.6.2 and it installs to C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware ThinApp. I now have both versions.
We run ThinApp from a share on a server via UNC path. As I mentioned above, sometimes I need to capture on a disconnected machine. In those cases, I'll copy over a working ThinApp installation to the capture machine's desktop, and add the THINSTALL_BIN environment variable to the capture machine. Because I'm always renaming the install folders on the server, I can try any ThinApp build on the capture machines.
As for ThinApp licensing ramifications for the approach I've outlined above, I'll leave that subject for VMware and/or your reseller.
Hi,
Thanks for all the advice but after trying again I am still getting the same error message, I have rasied a support call with VMware and awaiting a response from them.

Hi,
I have the same problem. I have clear new instalation Windows XP in my virtual machine. Clear instalation of ThinApp Capture. When I build new capture. This problem I have with the Microsoft Office 2007.
Any idea?
Thanks
What version of ThinApp are you using?
I'm using 4.7.0 with test key.
Evaluation key? Can you post the error please.
Error is : "Unable to validate your License. Pleas contact Technical Support"
Can you try uninstalling ThinApp completely and reinstall again and check please.
I try new install on clear virtual machine and build the app again. But no change.
Sorry to hear that. Please raise a support request with VMware.
Ok. Thank you for your time.
Julian,
