Hi,
I have a captured installation of firefox v12 created with ThinApp 4.7.0. The compiled binaries with this version seems to run fluid in my system, but I have upgraded to ThinApp 4.7.1 and discovered that the same Firefox installation package compiled with the new ThinApp version runs extremely slow, specially playing Adobe Flash videos (there are noticeable freezes when playing them and the page, for example youtube, loads extremelly slow). Other pages also takes ages to load.
I tried reverting back to 4.7.0 and compiled again to check if the captured package was corrupted or something, but it runs fine without any issues.
I also tried capturing again the installation of Firefox 12 with 4.7.1 but I obtained the same performance issues when compiled with this version. I reverted back to 4.7.0 and compiled the new package captured with 4.7.1 and obtained good results, confirming that the captured package has no problems.
I captured both installations with default ThinApp options, not changing anything in the package.ini, so I thing there could be a problem with this 4.7.1 release in terms of performance, at least with Firefox. I haven't performed the same test with other browsers.
I there anybody experiencing the same problem?
Thanks in advance
Could you check whether the antivirus is blocking/scanning the ThinApp?
I don't have any antivirus installed in the system, plus I performed another battery of tests in a clean VM (the same VM I use for capturing) with the same results.
Ok. I would like to check the same with two sets of Firefox, one built with 4.7 and the other with 4.7.1
Do you have any suggestions for the website for trying out please.
I have the same problem with 4.7.1 and Firefox. Relinking it to 4.6.1 fixes the lag.
A quick benchmark reveals that 4.7.1 is slowing down Firefox significantly.
You could try with:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0k3kHtyoqc&hd=1
The whole page loads slower with 4.7.1 for me and the video itself don't reproduce smoothly as it does in 4.7
The package options are the default ones and the configuration of firefox is also de default, but I didn't installed the "maintenance service" (which is basically a service that checks regularly for updates).
I have to mention also that I captured Adobe Flash Player (11.2.202.235) in other package and linked the Firefox package to it using the "OptionalAppLinks" parameter in the package.ini file as I usually do. Capturing Flash Player with either version 4.7 or 4.7.1 seems to make no difference.
Thank you very much for your help and implication.
Best regards
Hi,
I have tried checking the URL on a clean Windows 7 using Firefox 11 captured using 4.7 and the same version captured using 4.7.1
I'm not observing any big difference in performance.
Do you want me to check on a particular OS? Have you checked the performance on a clean machine that has no sandbox?
Hi,
I did all the tests in XP SP3.
I performed the tests in two different machines, one with a clean VM (XP too) used for capturing (I did the same test both in the VM and the host), and another machine without VM, running also XP SP3.
I always remove the sandbox folder before performing any test.
Thanks for your help
