Steam and thinapp error

Everytime I try to use thinapp to make steam portable, I get this weird error:

Steam.exe (Main exception): Win32 StructuredException at 7C913D54 : Attempt to read from virtual addres without appropiate acces rights.

I'm a bit of a noob at this, but I'm pretty sure I'm doing everything right. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong but I followed this tut if it helps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YySNRIbfINA . Is this error happening to anyone else?

Which version of Thinpp are you using? If it's not 4.7.3, then can you please try with it. Also, if it doesn't work with 4.7.3, can you try older versions and see if this ever worked.

Take a look at this community thread http://communities.vmware.com/message/1530227#1530227 , it seems like, that at some point Steam did work ThinApped (if you look at point 1 in the problem description, seems like ThinApped Steam launched well and then TF2 was installed, so that points to the fact that Steam was working without the error that you see at launch). So may be testing with some older ThinApp versions might throw some light on this.

Thanks.

Hmm, I'm using Thinapp 4.7.3 so I dunno if a steam update broke it being thinapped or what. I've been reading all over the steam forums that you USED to be able to Thinapp steam, but like I said, I'm not sure if some kinda update broke it or I'm just doing something wrong.

Well, it's hard to say, what broke it, whether it is ThinApp or Steam update. If you have access to older versions of ThinApp, like 4.7.1, 4.7.2, 4.6 or earlier, then you can try rebuilding your ThinApped Steam project (that you captured using 4.7.3, so need to recapture) and see if it helps. Otherwise, I think one way to proceed would be to generate Log Monitor trace files and look into them(you can upload them for me to take a look), or contact VMware support and file a ticket.

Thanks.

I don't have access to a older version of thinapp, but I'll look around for it. I'll also try to make a log for it, like you said.

Edit: Okay I made the log files. Do you want the trace files, or the txt logs?

I have tried packaging Steam and ended up with the same error reported. Please raise a Service Request with VMware to look into this issue in detail.

I know this might be a stupid question, but how would I go about doing that?

Can someone report this to support to me? I ask this because I have no idea how to report stuff to support on this.

On the page http://communities.vmware.com/community/vmtn/desktop/thinapp , click on the "Submit a Support Request" in the Feedback box on the right bottom of the page, I thing that should get you started. Also, I think right now this page is under maintenence, so you might have to wait for little bit.

Thanks.

Log in to "My VMware" and click on "Get Support"  - it should be obvious enough from there.

I can not do that, because I don't have a ThinApp license.

And I'm not going to use my former company's account for an SR that the company wouldn't need, even if it were still in business.

You raise a support ticket using the customer portal. You need to login to MyVmware and from there you should be able to file a support ticket. Your account must be tied to your ThinApp license.

Couldn't you use a trial license or something? Anyways you're right, it's down right now so I guess I'm gonna have to wait a bit.

-le boomp- I hope that someone can figure out how to fix this, considering that support is down and all that.
