Project Location and Updating Applications in View

Hi All,

I think I'm starting to get the hang of thinapp. I have a few questions

1) I have a VM, with thinapp installed on it, and took a snapshot and named "clean os". What I'd like to do is store the captures on a network share, and that seems to work, except it fails when I try to build the package. If I drag snapshot.exe over the build.bat on the network share, it will then build the package. I'm fine doing it this way, but not sure why I can't just run build.bat on its own.

2) How do you upgrade applications to new versions without the user losing their data? I'm using the built-in Thinapp repository in VMWare View to deploy MSI files. I'll give an example to help clarify my question. I'll use Firefox in my example, even though I am not trying to thinapp firefox.

If I was to thinapp firefox version 8 (Inventory name of Firefox :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: and set it to write copy, so that any internet favorites the user saves, get saved to the sandbox....okay, now Firefox 9 comes out and I want my users to use Firefox 9...what's the best way to upgrade?? I know I can just create a firefox 9 thinapp and add it to my repository, but how do I upgrade it properly, so the users don't lose their Favorites that are saved in the Firefox 8 sandbox?

Again, in real world, I wouldnt send favorites to a sandbox, but I'm just using this as an example....My question relates to any application

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

1. What is the version of ThinApp?

2. Please see this log post for updating an application (Firefox) with the use of MSI.

http://blogs.vmware.com/thinapp/2010/04/upgrade-a-deployed-thinapp-package-with-the-help-of-msi.html

For saving the sandbox data, please use the same sandbox name for both the old and new version.
