Packaging app for Windows 2008 which normally does not run on it

There is a network application which has a client component which is normally installed on user workstations. We tried to install and run it on Windows Server 2008 but after a few whiles after starting it crashes. So we decided to check if using ThinApp we can get it to work. We sequenced this application and tried to run it using ThinApp on Windows Server 2008. But it behaves the same. Are there any settings in ThinApp which we could try to modify to make this application working? For now we just packaged it with default settings.

Ist this a 64bit Windows ?

If it is you can try to set the WOW64 Switch in the Pakage.ini.

Well, you have not chosen the easiest thing to ThinApp. It is probably some dlls from Windows XP that you need to include in your project (package). What can be pretty much anything. Have you tried using Process Monitor and/or ThinApp Log Monitor to see if there is something jumping out?

I have managed to get quite a few legacy apps running on a newer OS but there is never one simple solution that solves all apps.

Please have a look at these files and see if those helps out:

MSVCP50.dll

MFC40.DLL

MFC40U.DLL

MFC42.DLL

MFC42U.DLL

NOTE:  Sometimes there are other MFC DLLs which may need to be loaded but are not listed here.  A review of the Log Monitor logs may indicate this.

MSVBMxx.DLL (where "xx" is the version number such as 50, 60, 70, 80, etc.)

MSVCRT.DLL

MSVCRT20.DLL

MSVCRT40.DLL

MSVCPxx.DLL (where "xx" is the version number such as 50, 60, 71, 80, etc.)

COMADDIN.DLL (not often needed)

COMCAT.DLL (not often needed)

COMCTL32.DLL

COMDLG32.DLL (not often needed)

COMMDLG.DLL (not often needed)
