I thinapp'd IE6 on XP and that helped us get migrated to IE8 on XP. Now that we're upgrading to Windows 7, I had to re-create my IE6 Thinapp to accomodate a new applicaiton. One of the functionalities that was lost was the ability to have multiple "redirected" IE6 windows open on Win7x64. With VMware's Thindirect feature, we are leveraging our native IE8 installed browser to forward URLs into a Thinapp'd IE6. Previously we could have multiple IE6 Thinapp windows open from redirected URLs, however that functionality is now lost. I can manually launch the Thinapp and have multiple sessions open, but are users expect to be able to click only one icon for the internet (IE8), and have everything work from there.
I was told by VMware that this functionality was lost after Thinapp version 4.6.1. I've rolled back my packaging system on XP to version 4.6.1-361923 but still the issue persists.
Any ideas on how to get the multiple redirected window functionality restored?
Thanks
Hi,
As I understand what you want is that if we have 2 thindirected URLS say as below
[VirtIE6.exe]
www.facebook.com
www.ibnlive.com
You want it to be thindirected to a different VirtIE6?
In effect you mean, if you have copied and thiregged VirtIE6 on a WIndows 7 machine, then when you launch www.facebook.com then it should open in One VirtIE6 and then when an IE8 is launched again and then URL set to www.ibnlive.com then it should open in an another VirtIE6.
Try this
1. On an XP SP3 machine Do prescan.
2. Click on "Internet Explorer".
3. Select Radio button "InClude an Entry Point for a Fully Virtualized Internet Explorer".
4. Click on OK.
5. Launch Internet Explorer 6.
6. Select Tools -> Internet Options.
7. Goto Advanced Tab.
8. UnCheck the Radio box "Reuse Windows for Launching short Cuts".
9. Click on "Apply" and then "OK".
10. Perform PostScan and continue with default steps till VirtIE6 is generated.
Then Copy the virtie6 to a Windows 7 machine.
Do a ThinReg as "ThinReg.exe /a VirtIE6.exe"
Launch IE8 and type www.facebook.com it will open in one seperate window of VirtIE6.
Now the IE8 is closed.
Launch IE8 again and then type www.ibnlive.com it will open in an another seperate window of VirtIE6.
"Two Seperate Thindirected IE6 for Two different Thindirected URLS"
I did this exersice on thinapp 4.7.2 771812.
Did that help?

That fixed my issue! After a week of going in circles, that was the change that I needed in the browser. VMware support wasn't able to figure this out either, so thank you very much. You are, indeed, the GURU
