IE8 Thinapp crashing with IE 10 installed natively

Hello everyone,

I have two IE 8 Thinapps both built seperately with Thinapp 4.7.3-891762 that run fine on Windows XP or Windows 7 with IE 7, 8 or 9 installed natively but both crash if IE 10 is present. Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Yes, I've also experienced this with Win7 x64.  Thinapp'd IE8 works everywhere unless IE10 is installed.

I could able to reproduce the issue reported and filed a bug with ThinApp team. Hope it gets fixed soon.

i am afraid this is an issue that came up with the update to IE10.

I have the same problem.

Tried different things but no solution.

I tried deïnstalling IE10 after this the thinapp package started working again.

It is defenitly linked to IE10.

Can somebody tell me what we can do to make this work?

Kind Regards

Thanks for chiming in, everyone. I'm glad it's not just me. This isn't a huge problem just yet in my case as we're blocking IE 10 installs but that's only a short-term resolution.

This KB has nothing to do with the failure of IE10.  IE10 will package and build but once built, it does not respond when running it.  You can only run IE10 in Windows 7 (maybe Windows 8).  I have ran the EXE and used the MSI to install.  Both fails.

I believe some system files are missing that allows IE10 to run properly but I do not know which files that would be.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Solution listed in this KB does indeed fix the problem: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=203875...

I copied \Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEShims.dll from a Windows 7 x64 machine running IE8 to ProgramFilesDir%\Internet Explorer on my Windows XP ThinApp machine and rebuilt the project.  I now have IE10 (physically installed) and IE8 (ThinApp'd) on the same machine.
