Hi,
I'm working on a virtualizing IE8 using ThinApp 4.7 because of a website's compatibility with Windows 7. The site needs special configuration/setting change for the browser and it also depends on some activeX. Those activeX controls are installed manually by extracting dll and inf files from some cab files. The inf file needs to be installed by right click --> Install and the dll file needs to be registered on Windows XP. The inf file doesn't install on Windows 7 natively. I've captured IE 8 from Windows XP with all the required settings and installed the activeX files. Tested and confirmed that the site working properly.
After building the project, I can run the virtual IE 8 on a Windows 7 machine that has IE 9 installed natively. But that website is not functioning properly. The virtual IE8 is fully functional. So, it seems that the activeX setup or the dll registration didn't get captured. Could someone help me troubleshoot where this went wrong?
Thanks,
There was an issue with Activex in ThinApp 4.7. Please try with latest ThinApp version 5.0. and let me know if you still face the same issue.
Have you tried it. Please, let us know if there is any progress or you need more info.
Hi Cievo,
Yes, I've tried to use the ThinApp 5.0 but unfortunately it didn't work and it's not entirely a packaging issue. It's difficult to get that website to work in one shot. I don't even have proper setup/installation steps. This time, I couldn't even get the site to work properly after upgrading to IE8.
I started with a fresh Windows XP SP3 installation and then did a prescan using ThinApp 5.0. Performed an IE upgrade from version 6 to version 8. Configured the necessary IE options (i.e. adding the site to trusted site list, enable activeX related options, view in compatibility mode, disable pop-up blocker, registered the necessary dll files, etc.). But the website still didn't work. So, there wasn't really any point in running the postscan at this point. There's probably some other components that needs to be setup and I don't have any info on the requirements.
Unfortunately I had to drop this and move on to other work. I was able to successfully configure this only once before doing a postscan but that was done using ThinApp 4.7. The website was working fine before the post scan but after the project was built, although virtual IE8 was working, that website wasn't working on that virtual IE.
Thank you for your answer.
If you do have instalation steps, we can try capture it and make it work ![]()
Thanks Cievo for the offer. That's really nice of you. I could provide whatever instructions I have but it's an internal site. So, you won't be able to test to see if it worked before going through postscan and building the project.
