Failed to read remote ThinstallDirectoryPointer?

Has anyone encountered the 'Failed to read remote ThinstallDirectoryPointer' AppSync error? Basically it looks like AppSync is working up to a point.

For example watching the install directory I'll launch my app, I see an App.asd file being created, AppSync is apparently determining that an update is available (it is), I see the download begin and watch as the app.ase file is downloaded to completion, then nothing. I close the app, the ase disappears, I launch again and the whole process starts over. The app is never actually updated.

To trouble shoot I kicked off an update via AppSync.exe; again the update downloads then I get an error:

'Failed to read remote ThinstallDirectoryPointer'

I haven't been able to find any info on what this error means or how to go about troubleshooting/fixing it. Anyone have any ideas?

ThinstallDirectoryPointer is an internal section inside PDC which AppSynch is trying to read. Why it will fail? My guess will be on the wrong/corrupt network package pdc file. They should have same name, kindly ensure that it is a working package.
