Hi All,
Virtualnoob here. I am still a noob with VDI but studying up on it everyday for the past month.. I am in an internship program and need to type up a detailed cost analysis of VDI priceing, liscening , etc.. I am a little troubled with ThinApp pricing .. I know you need a thinapp liscense for each application you virtualize.. but do you need to have volume liscening for these applications to deploy them to multiple VMs? Not all companies do volume liscensing so I am curious what the legalities are behind this .. if I virtualize MSO 2010 and link it to 10 VM's can I use one liscense of MSO 2010 or do I need 10 ?
Thanks All
Hi..
First of all, you do not need a ThinApp license per application you virtualize. You need one ThinApp license per named user, device or concurrent user on a supported concurrent user platform (View or Citrix). This license allows you to ThinApp unlimited amount of applications.
When it comes to licensing of other software do ThinApp in no way alter the licensing of that software. In order to use 10 copies of Office will you still need ten licenses of Office. Why we talk about using a Volume License Key (VLK) is because many software will not allow portability if not using a VLK. Those applications not offering a VLK will probably not have this limitation. But that doesn’t mean you are allowed to use more copies than you are entitle to use.
Thanks for the response .. that pretty much hits it on the head
