Why was this no longer continued?

actually the idea was simple...

To be able to control VM's via the web interface.
For this I only wanted to use the screen transfer and input function to test software from a basic installation and to be able to reset the VM again.

The share function of VMware Worstation 16 I am familiar and would know that someone else can install the WMware software and add the shared VMs.

Only this would have to be done manually each time.

With web interface the shared VM's would be visible in a portfolio.

So you definitely want to use VMware Workstation to run the VMs? Not ESXi/vSphere?

Are you not able to use some sort of remote protocol (RDP, VNC) from those other devices to the host system?

Shared VMs are now a deprecated feature of Workstation, the current release is the final one which will support them. That may influence your choice of host hypervisor.
