Com ports & Win 98 instance

I have many old Dos and Win 95/98 systems to support. I loaded Win 98 on VMPlayer, on a Dell E4310 laptop, which has no serial com ports and only 1 USB. The Win 98 instance says the Com ports 1 & 2 are enabled and functional. I need an RS232 9 pin to connect to other devices. If I buy a USB-to-RS232 cable, will this give me connectivity to other devices? I looked through the knowledge base anddidn't see anything.

Hi John,

Welcome to the forums.

If you have a driver for your adaptor that allows seeing it as a real COM port on the host, then you should be able to present it to the guest VM. You can also attach it to the VM through virtual USB port and install the driver for Windows 98 inside the guest, if it exists.
