vSphere 7.0 - Dedicate NFS traffice for VMkernel

Hello

I need check best practice for configuration NFS traffic. I have NFS storage & I will mount to ESXi cluster for datastore.

I want dedicate traffic for NFS ( not using vmkernel MGMT by default) but I can not see stack NFS on edit setting on vmkernel.

Please sharing about knowledge base or document about NFS traffic, and about configuration of vmkernel traiffic.

Thanks

Duy

Hello

There is no separate NFS stack available while creating NFS traffic.

  • Since you want to create a totally separate stack, I will suggest you do the below
  • Create a separate port group if on vDS or a separate switch if on host level with VMK from a different subnet and tagged the vLANS.
  • It is recommended that the IP assigned to vmk must be from the same subnet as the NFS storage.
  • Use a dedicated uplink if possible.

The NFS traffic will not interfere with the vmk management, you can check from esxtop n.

Hello

As I known with version 6.x we still can be config vmkernel to stack NFS using command line, because in GUI we have not see option NFS on stack option vmkernel.

As follow this KB : https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/50112854

But I don't sure version 7.x is OK & I want find document deepdive about stack of vmkernel

Duy

Hi

Creating a Custom Stack option is still available,

https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/7.0/com.vmware.vsphere.networking.doc/GUID-660423B1-3D35-4...

But honestly, i don't see a reason if this is really required, is your nfs storage on the same subnet as vmk0 management?
