determine link speed on linux guest?

Running esx 3.0.1 w/ redhat and ubuntu guests. ethtool and ifconfig do not display the link speed of the guests. neither does it show up in dmesg. how can i get this info? thx.

The guests only know about their virtual interfaces to the virtual switch and nothing about the physical interfaces. The link speed of the physical interfaces is available in the viclient in the vSwitch properties.
