  • 1.  VM - SQL 2005 - memory upgrade causes CPU to fluctuate

    Good morning everyone,

    We recently upgraded our VM - SQL 2005 server from 2GB to 4GB ram. However, the upgrade causes the CPU to fluctuate constantly upto 100% which causes our remote applications to disconnect or timeout. The only service that is fluctuating is SQLSERV.exe. We are running Windows 2003 R2 (x86) and I used the /3GB switch. To fix the problem I had to downsize the ram back to 2GB. The CPU is steady to around 10-20% nothing more.

    Any ideas?

    When you added the extra RAM, did you increase the size of the paging file on the VM in Windows? Just a thought.
