Ubuntu 8.04.1 64-bit on ESX 3i

I have an ESX server witht he following config:

2 Xeon 5130s

4GB

ESX 3i upgraded to build 123629

Having trouble setting up an Ubunto 64 bit guest. It will install fine, but when upgrading patches, just freezes on the upgrades. Tried the following settins for the guest settings

4 procs, 768MB

2 procs, 512MB

Both had similar results. will freeze upon upgrade, but at different locations.

Hard freeze (no response on the guest at all)? Have you tried other 64-bit guest O/Ss to see if they produce similar behavior?

I did not try that. When doing further testing it looked like if I installed it and would leave the Virtual center console screen up and not work on other tasks it did complete. Before in the past, I would start it then work on other things.

It did finally complete. After that I upgraded the ESX host to the latest version, and the documentation says in that version, it will work with 8.04.1. Will try again and see.

Other 64-bit Linux OS do not exhibit this problem. I am chalking it up that I needed to upgrade the server
