Slow speed between virtual servers and physical server

Hi,

This is the situation:

I have a cluster of ESX servers (HP G5) each with 24GB of RAM.

There about 20 Windows servers installed on these boxes. Each ESX server is attached to SAN (EMX CX-600) with HBA card.

Each ESX box has 4 NIC cards. 1 NIC is used for Console, 1 NIC is used for Vmotion and 2 NIC is used for data. All NICs are 1GB.

The problem:

I am having very slow response between all VMs and each physical servers.

All Physical servers are also attached to 1GB. The speed between VMs are extremly fast (console NIC). Speed between VMs and even different cluster is also fast (data NIC). The issue is speed between each VM and physical box. This is affecting my backup, I get only 20GB per hour backup. The phsical server backup is about 40GB and hour twice as fast the VM servers. I have talked to VM tech and they can not figure this out. HELP.

Monitor the utilization of your NICs connected to "VM Network" while taking backup. If you are utilizing more than 80% of your NICs, then you may need to add another NIC. Make sure your backup server and "VM network" in ESX doesnt have any network latencies. Try enabling Jumbo frames if you are using vSphere.
