SCSI Sense code - PDL

Hi,

Are the below sense codes sent by the FC storage to the ESXi or vice versa? (they repeat every few seconds)

The respective disk is not mounted but it shows as attached, can I detach it and is it considered a safe operation to do?

Not Consumed = not mounted right?

yes this means ESXi sent an inquiry or TUR (test unit ready) to the device and the storage array returned  Logical Unit Not Supported  this indicates that the device is permanently inaccessible to the ESXi host,

What Not Consumed means it is not in use by ESXi from a VMFS or vSAN perspective

Planned meant you meant to remove the device from the host, unplanned means just that, there was a mistake or another unplanned event

You can check by looking at the storage view and see if there are any impacted VMFS volumes

if it was associated with an existing datastore, check

  1. All running virtual machines are powered off and unregistered from the vCenter Server.
  2. From the vSphere Client, navigate to the Configuration tab of the ESXi host, and click Storage.
  3. Right-click the datastore being removed, and click Unmount

check KB https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2004684 for more details

hope this helps
