%Ready is greater than 50. why?

hi,

I am running 2 CSU vConsolidate workload in supermicro machine which has NHM processor(quadcore(0-15)) with SMT ON and Turbo mode ON.

Below is the performance chart:

% total util (Average) = 51 %

Power consumed = 320w

vCON geomean score = 3.43

Vcpu(1:idle:xxxx:idle(0-15)) % Ready = >50%

Question: my understanding is more %ready state will cause the CPU contention. Inthis case why %ready state is >50% ?

Please help me.

Let me know if you need any additional metrics.

Thanks,

kamal.

Are you reading the ready time for the idle group? This would be group ID 1. The ready time on the idle group is nonsense. Its results are an artifact of accounting and not an indicator of performance.

yes scott,

I am reading the %ready time for the "group idle"

(Group Cpu(1:idle)\% Ready ) =800

(Vcpu(1:idle:4098:idle1)\% Ready) = >50%

(Vcpu(1:idle:4099:idle2)\% Ready) = >50%

(Vcpu(1:idle:4100:idle3)\% Ready) = >50%

......

(Vcpu(1:idle:4115:idle15)\% Ready) = >50%

Do u mean to say, we need to ignore this field.

Here, my problem is i am getting some performance hit. In that case, which field i need to take into account?

(I believe %ready state= waiting time for the scheduler to schedule a job. )

Thanks for your time and help.

Thanks,

kamal.

Read the documentation on this community. Here's the best starting point:

appreciate your help.

Still i coulndt find the reason why performance is degrading. i have gone through my esxtop metrics top to bottom and filtered with GROUP's and world's in CPU aspects.

only i can see is the below mentioned %ready state.

can you please pass me your mail ID. so that i can send my whole finding(segregated) to you.

Thanks once again for your time and help.
